How to Create a Healthy Kids’ Party

Parties are colourful and happy occasions, littered with streamers, balloons and enormous cake-covered grins.

Children are very visual, so colour at a party is important. Some of the most colourful foods come from from nature.

A combination of a few indulgences in amongst a large selection of colourful, healthy foods is a great way to go.

Here are some ideas to ensure the kids aren’t ill from a sugar high at their next event!

Fruit Cups

Slice up a combination of berries, melon and grapes and put them in a clear cup with a dollop of yoghurt and a chocolate coated strawberry on top!

Vegetable Dippers

Grab some little ‘shot glasses’ and fill with hummus, beetroot dip or tzatziki and stick vegetable sticks into the dip! Think beans, capsicum, carrot and corn spears.

Melon Shapes

Slice up a large watermelon and cut out shapes using cookie cutters. Create a platter of dinosaurs, flowers or stars.

Fruit Skewers

Thread a combination of fruits onto a skewer with the option of drizzling some white and dark chocolate over the top with a sprinkle of coconut for a fancy effect!

Berry and Banana Smoothies

Rather than fuelling the kids up with sugary soft drinks, think about making 2 types of smoothies. A banana, cinnamon and yoghurt one, as well as a berry and yoghurt one. Plenty of protein from the milk to keep them fuller and if you use frozen bananas and berries they are almost like a healthy sundae!

Mini Pizzas

Mini pizzas are an easy way to go if you use English muffins with some cheese, lean ham and tomato. Some children quite like some pineapple or some baby spinach on theirs. Make a variety!

Sushi and Rice Paper Rolls

The perfect hand food and a definite winner with adults and children alike.

Chicken and Veggie Meatballs

Chicken mince combined with grated vege and a few eggs make the best little meatballs. Roll and cook, then pop on a tooth pick for easy eating.

Flashy Popcorn

Freshly popped popcorn flavoured with dried herbs and cheese can taste amazing!
