Fresh in Fitness: The Workout Trends of 2015

Setting up a home gym 610x350-2

When it comes to fitness trends, you’ve probably dabbled in most of them. From TRX, to Pilates, to Bikram Yoga, we can find ourselves reinventing our training regimes as often as our wardrobes.

So, with the New Year shining bright, it’s safe to say there will be some exciting new exercise trends on the horizon.

So what’s hot (and sweaty) in 2015? There may just be something on offer that tickles your fancy. After all, the New Year is all about a new you!

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

It’s the little acronym with the big punch. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is hotter than ever, due to its vast fitness and health benefits for the beginner through to the athlete. Why is it so great? HIIT workouts focus on high intensity sets with minimal rest – meaning they are time efficient, rarely boring, and whole-body focused. Think running, jumping, skipping, push-uping and all kinds of goodies mushed into one juicy workout.

Telemetry

Not so surprisingly, 2015 all about a fusion of exercise and technology – or ‘Telemetry’. Why count your steps, calories burned, heart rate, or total output when there is a neat wristband that does it for you? Of course, they also have apps, sync with your phone and are fashionable enough to wear every day. New accessory anyone?

Technology is also meaning online workouts and trainers are more accessible – and a big trend for 2015. You can stream podcasts from iTunes, or watch a workout on YouTube. No need to even leave your lounge room (or ditch your PJs).

Now let’s be honest, time is valuable to us. And whilst we may love or hate working out, it can be hard to find enough time in the day to feed the cats let alone do exercise. That’s why this year is seeing a wave of short workouts, such as the scientifically formulated 7 Minute Workout. SEVEN MINUTES!? Yep, no excuses now.

It’s always great practice to see what’s out there, and try as many options as you can, to find the workouts that work best for your body and your lifestyle. Just like you tried that perm in 1983, or that double denim ensemble in the 90s, try and make exercise work for you, so you can work hard day in and day out to get the results you deserve!
